Boxing Day - 26th December
11th Jan 2016
Boxing Day is traditionally the day following Christmas Day, when servants and tradespeople would receive gifts, known as a "Christmas box", from their bosses or employers. Today, Boxing Day is the holiday that generally takes place on 26 December. In Australia we are best known on Boxing Day for our traditional events. The start of the Sydney to Hobart yacht race which starts from Sydney Harbour, and the cricket test match played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground between Australia and another international cricket team.
We also have been inspired by the Retail Sector where we can't wait to get a bargain at the Boxing Day Sales. Myer and David Jones are renowned for these sales where all consumers are lined up from the earlier hours of the morning, some stores open from 5am to enter the store to be the first to grab a bargain. While others are happy to spend the day on the beach or enjoy the company of friends around a BBQ.
